Mechanics and Mental Change

چکیده
Realistic human rationality departs from ideal theories of rationality and meaning developed in epistemology and economics because in human life deliberation takes time and effort, ignorance and inconsistency do not deter action, and learning takes time and slows with time. This paper examines some theories of mental change with an eye to assessing their adequacy for characterizing realistic limits on change and uses a simple kind of reasoning system from artificial intelligence to illustrate how mechanical concepts, including mental inertia, force, work, and constitutional elasticity, provide a new language and formal framework for analyzing and specifying limits on cognitive systems. 1 Vive la Résistance The ideal actors on the stage of human imagination exhibit courageousness, decisiveness, integrity, generosity, an ability to think clearly and rapidly as they act, and an ability to change direction instantly should danger or opportunity warrant. We admire heroes and heroines and tell their stories partly to celebrate their attainment of these qualities, for many people exhibit courageousness, decisiveness, integrity, generosity, and clear thinking in small matters, and so appreciate the joy they imagine the hero and heroine must feel in larger matters. But an ability to change direction instantly? The size and profitability of the self-help section of almost any bookstore attests to the trouble most people have in changing their J. The effect of organizational change on mental health, by examining the moderator role of support and job control
Background and Aim: The present study seeks to explain the effect of organizational change on employeeschr('39') mental health with respect to the moderating role of job support and control. Method: This method is descriptive and correlational. The statistical population of the study was the staff of Farshchian Sina Hospital in Hamadan, a total number of 200 people. Sample size was determined ...
متن کاملInfluence of Temperature Change on Modal Analysis of Rotary Functionally Graded Nano-beam in Thermal Environment
The free vibration analysis of rotating functionally graded (FG) nano-beams under an in-plane thermal loading is provided for the first time in this paper. The formulation used is based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory through Hamilton’s principle and the small scale effect has been formulated using the Eringen elasticity theory. Then, they are solved by a generalized differential quadrature meth...
متن کاملFramework of the Mindful Sense- Making Process of the Leader in the Quantum Organisation
In this chapter I discuss and draw conclusions on mental models of leaders in the South African quantum organisation. The conceptual framework describes the dynamic change leaders undergo in their mental models. The purpose of this chapter is twofold: first, to discuss the findings and secondly, to demonstrate rigorous practice by showing the important relationship between the central research ...
متن کاملA Study of Na/K Feldspar Solid Solution Using Statistical Mechanics
Thermal behavior of various solid feldspars are different, namely those of bivalent cations show no change in the distribution of Al and Si atoms, whereas feldspars of univalent cations become more disordered with raising temperature. In the latter case Al atoms migrate from the sites they occupe at low temperatures and interchange positions with the Si atoms. At high temperatures (but stil...
متن کاملDeveloping Coping Strategies with the Threats to Mental Health and the Family Structure of the Oil Company's Satellite Staff: a focus on the third type of change
Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a strategic model in relation to the factors threatening the mental health and family structure of satellite employees of the oil company with emphasis on the focus of the third type of change. Method: In this study, a qualitative approach and a grounded theory method were used. The statistical population included all satellite personnel of South Za...
متن کاملCracks Analysis in Zavin Concrete Dam Using Fracture Mechanics Approach
Most of the existing concrete dams are subjected to cracking. These cracks are caused by various factors such as construction practices, curing, loads and volume change of mass concrete which reduce the efficiency, failure or instability of concrete dams. Using fracture mechanics as a new method to estimate stability and durability of concrete dams is recommended in scientific publications in w...
